Wedgewood Hotel & Spa – Relais & Chateaux Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa – Relais & Chateaux feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly well-appointed private residence rather than a typical downtown hotel. The lobby has this intimate, European elegance that immediately sets it apart from Vancouver’s larger chain properties. You know what struck me most? The attention to detail — fresh flowers everywhere, original artwork on the walls, and staff who actually remember your name after one conversation. It’s the kind of five-star luxury that doesn’t feel stuffy or pretentious, which honestly can be rare in this category.
Prime Downtown Location
The location on Hornby Street is absolutely perfect — I mean, you’re literally in the heart of everything Vancouver has to offer. Robson Street’s shopping and dining scene is just steps away, and you can easily walk to the Vancouver Art Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, or even down to the waterfront. What couples particularly love (and I can see why they rated it 9.8) is how you’re close enough to explore on foot, but the hotel itself sits on a quieter stretch that feels removed from the downtown hustle. The fact that they have private parking is actually a huge bonus — anyone who’s tried to park downtown Vancouver will appreciate this luxury.
The Rooms and That Famous Sleep
I have to say, the rooms live up to the Relais & Chateaux reputation for luxury and comfort. The beds are genuinely exceptional — and I’m someone who’s pretty particular about sleep quality when traveling. The linens feel expensive (because they probably are), and there’s this perfect balance of firmness that somehow works for different sleep preferences. Each room has its own personality with antique furnishings and original artwork, so it doesn’t feel cookie-cutter at all. The bathrooms are spacious with deep soaking tubs, which after a day exploring the city, becomes your new best friend.
The Spa Experience
The spa here deserves special mention because it’s not just an afterthought — it’s a genuine retreat right in the middle of the city. The treatment rooms have this serene, almost zen-like quality that makes you forget you’re surrounded by urban Vancouver. I particularly appreciated how they customize treatments rather than just offering a standard menu. The relaxation areas are thoughtfully designed too, with that same residential feel that runs throughout the property. It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend half a day unwinding.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets the Wedgewood apart is how it manages to feel both luxurious and genuinely welcoming. The staff strikes this perfect balance — professional but warm, attentive without being intrusive. You get the five-star service and amenities you’d expect, but in an atmosphere that feels more like staying with sophisticated friends than at a corporate hotel. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about the intimate scale and European charm that you just don’t find in larger properties. Plus, being able to walk to Vancouver’s best restaurants and attractions while having a peaceful retreat to return to — well, that’s pretty much the ideal city hotel experience.
The concierge service in Vancouver arranges seaplane fjord picnics, private Capilano dawn walks, and chef-sourced seafood markets.

Charming, quiet, oasis-like hotel, right in the middle of the city. Generous room, wonderful attentive staff and the best hotel bar/lounge we have visited in some time. Excellent food and overall very good value.

The service was fantastic from start to finish. The staff really couldn't do enough for us, which was much appreciated (including packing our car up when we were leaving). The location was also super for all of our Vancouver activities.
What could be improved: The rooms were a little tired looking compared to the rest of the top notch standard and felt like they were in need of a refurb. The bed was still super comfortable!Janaki from United Kingdom – 8 March 2025 (9/10)
Fabulous boutique hotel with a superb restaurant and Lounge bar. Feels like home.
What could be improved: The only thing that was frustrating was the lack of Tea mugs in the room. The used ones were taken but never replaced!Mick from Australia – 5 March 2025 (9/10)
Excellent dinner in the lounge, very classy
