Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Steveston Waterfront Hotel — I mean, Richmond isn’t exactly where you’d think to look for a five-star experience. But this place completely changed my perspective on what luxury hospitality can be outside Vancouver’s downtown core. The moment you step into the lobby, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about every detail, from the way natural light floods through those floor-to-ceiling windows to how the staff genuinely seems happy to see you.

It sits right in the heart of Steveston Village, which feels like this perfectly preserved fishing town that somehow escaped Vancouver’s relentless development. I spent hours just wandering the boardwalk — there’s something almost therapeutic about watching the fishing boats come and go while you’re sipping coffee from one of the local cafés. The hotel’s parking is actually a godsend here because street parking can be a nightmare during summer weekends when everyone descends on the area for the salmon festival or just to escape the city.

Waterfront Luxury

My room faced the Fraser River, and I’ll be honest — I spent way too much time just standing on that balcony watching the water. The accommodations feel genuinely luxurious without being stuffy about it, if that makes sense. Everything from the linens to the bathroom fixtures screams quality, but there’s this relaxed West Coast vibe that keeps it from feeling pretentious. The spa downstairs became my evening ritual — after a day exploring the village or cycling the dyke trails, those treatment rooms with river views were exactly what I needed.

Dining and Local Flavors

The hotel’s restaurant sources a lot from local fishermen, which you’d hope for in a place like Steveston, but they actually deliver on that promise. I had some of the best spot prawns of my life there — and trust me, I’ve eaten my way through plenty of Vancouver seafood. What I really appreciated was how they didn’t try to overcomplicate things; when you’ve got ingredients this fresh, you just let them shine. Plus, being able to walk to places like Dave’s Fish and Chips or the Gulf of Georgia Cannery between meals gives you this perfect mix of hotel luxury and authentic local experiences.

Look, couples absolutely adore this place, and I get why — there’s something inherently romantic about waterfront sunsets and quiet village streets after the day-trippers head home. But honestly, I think anyone who appreciates that sweet spot between sophisticated comfort and genuine local character will fall for this hotel. The staff seems to understand that luxury isn’t just about thread counts and marble countertops (though they’ve got those covered too) — it’s about creating space where you can actually relax and connect with a place. After staying here, I finally understood why people rave about Richmond’s hidden gems.

  This hotel is in a the perfect location to explore Steveston! The room was super clean. Having a full kitchen was great! It was very well appointed. We loved how we could just walk out of our back patio door and were literally on the boardwalk.
  
  What could be improved: The cell service was bad. I could text but could not make phone calls. The check in process is a bit off putting in that you basically have to have a mobile device to stay there as all communication and the virtual key are done through the portal. That being said, when I had difficulty the staff both on site when we arrived, and on the phone when we had a question, were excellent to deal with.

  Located right on the waterfront promenade in Steveston so had excellent views of the ocean and a very pleasant place to walk and explore the history of the village. Visitors welcomed by local businesses, including the Good Co restaurant where we enjoyed a 10% discount!

  It was close to pretty much everything. Walking distance. The room was spacious with everything you needed.

  The Hotel is clean and quiet. It was super easy to use the check in system. The room was a great size. The bed is nice and big in the bedroom. The pullout sofa was very comfortable. Easy walking distance to the Warf, which has lots of options for food. It's a beautiful location.
  For parking, I parked on the road. Loads of room and the neighborhood is safe. I disagree with the charge of $25 a night for parking. We've already paid quite a bit for a room, parking should be a courtesy given to your guests. Save your money, park on the road!

  we stayed in the one bedroom suite and it was a lovely view facing the water. i loved everything that was included in the room and everything was comfortable and clean
  
  What could be improved: it was hard to get into the portal/site for all the info about your stay when confirming the booking, im unsure if it wasnt accepting my camera because its an android but it kept telling me it was a camera error and i needed to use a stronger one. but when my boyfriend tried logging into it with his iphone it worked right away, so no issue. as well i didn't like that you walk right into the bedroom and the bed is a foot away from the door but its a personal preference and not a huge issue.
