Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about the Shawnee Place location — it’s one of those addresses that locals know but isn’t overrun with tour groups. You’re still very much in Vancouver, with easy access to everything you want to see, but there’s this residential feel that gives you a real sense of the city. The free on-site parking is honestly a game-changer if you’re driving, because anyone who’s tried to park in Vancouver knows it can be a nightmare. Couples seem to really get this spot — there’s something about the quieter setting that makes it perfect for romantic getaways without feeling isolated from the action.

The Rooms

The rooms at Mekong Star strike that perfect balance between comfort and style that’s harder to find than you’d think. Everything feels thoughtfully chosen rather than just ordered from a hotel catalog, you know? The beds are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and the bathrooms have those little touches that make you feel like someone actually cares about your experience.   Beautiful and very comfortable inside and out. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We hung out in the private and gorgeous backyard until the unit was cleaned and ready.

  We definitely had a wonderful stay at/with Mekong Star! First of all, it was easy to communicate with them even before the trip and we had questions about the booking and the property. During and even after our stay, they were very responsive and even anticipated our needs (ex. Vancouver suddenly had a temperature change and they messaged us if we needed a temp change in the house — so thoughtful!). Second, what were posted in the photos are the real deal! 100% true! Third, easy check-in also with just a door code and a secure gate going to the house also, we had our privacy definitely. Fourth, supplies are also complete for our 10-day stay! Although about a 30-min Uber ride from downtown, there was a nearby bus stop and also nearby grocery/Starbucks/restaurants so location is very accessible and convenient. Overall our stay was superb! Couldn’t ask for a better host! Mekong Star definitely made our stay in Canada convenient and memorable! Thank you Mekong Star! Will stay with you again if we'll find ourselves back in Vancouver!
