Smithe House Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Smithe House on Smithe Street, you immediately get that boutique hotel vibe — it’s not trying too hard, but there’s definitely something refined about the whole setup. The building fits right into Yaletown’s aesthetic, which honestly makes sense since this neighborhood is all about that polished urban living thing. What struck me first was how the entrance manages to feel both welcoming and upscale without being intimidating, you know? Plus, they’ve got private parking right there, which — trust me — is worth its weight in gold in downtown Vancouver.
Location & Neighborhood
Yaletown is one of those areas where you can actually walk everywhere, and Smithe House sits right in the sweet spot of it all. I mean, you’re literally steps from some of Vancouver’s best restaurants and that whole seawall situation along False Creek. The location score of 9.5 makes total sense when you realize you can stroll to Granville Island in about fifteen minutes or catch a game at BC Place without dealing with transit headaches. Couples seem to really get this — they’ve rated the location 9.7, probably because there’s something romantic about wandering through those converted warehouse streets at night.
The Room Experience
The rooms at this four-star property have that modern Vancouver aesthetic down pat — clean lines, lots of natural light, and those floor-to-ceiling windows that actually make you feel connected to the city. What I appreciated was the attention to small details, like proper blackout curtains (essential for those summer nights when it stays light until 9 PM) and bathrooms that don’t feel cramped. The beds are seriously comfortable, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living in a shoebox, which can be rare in downtown Vancouver hotels.
Exploring the Area
Here’s what locals know — Yaletown connects you to everything without the chaos of being right downtown-downtown. From Smithe House, you can walk to the financial district for business meetings, hit up Robson Street for shopping, or just wander down to the water when you need to decompress. The Canada Line is close enough to get you to the airport easily, but far enough that you’re not dealing with constant tourist crowds. Actually, some of Vancouver’s hidden gem restaurants are tucked into the surrounding blocks, the kind of places you’d never find unless you were staying right in the neighborhood.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.6 rating doesn’t come from nowhere — it’s the combination of being in the heart of Vancouver without feeling overwhelmed by it. The staff seems to understand that travelers want genuine recommendations, not just the standard tourist script. And honestly, the whole package works because it feels authentically Vancouver — polished but not pretentious, urban but still livable. Whether you’re here for business or exploring the city with someone special, Smithe House gives you that perfect home base where you can actually relax between adventures.

Reviews of Smithe House
Kadejaha from Canada – 30 March 2025 (9/10)
Very cute layout. Nicely designed. I wished the kitchen had a few more essentials, the gym was too small and very bare bones, like that it was 24hours. Also missing a few essentials as well. Ie. Mats etc. I would recommend this place to friends and family.

Well designed, clean and modern.
What could be improved: The only issue (but should be expected) is outside noise at night.Eliz from Canada – 11 January 2025 (10/10)
Loved the place! It was our 7th time visiting Vancouver. So we've stayed at a lot of places in the past and can compare.
Absolutely loved the Smithe House. Everything at the room/apartment is very well thought out, you have everything you need (*even umbrellas for the rainy Vancouver!). The staff is extremely helpful and nice, they were always available if we needed any help or support. So definitely happy with the stay 10/10.
What could be improved: Maybe have some more clear instructions for check in/out and cleaningEllen from Canada – 3 January 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: Could not make the coffee machine to work.
Needed toothpaste, but there was none and also there was no body to ask.John from United States – 8 December 2024 (9/10)
Staff-owners, quiet, comfort , pillows, location is near events and many dining choices , cleanliness.
What could be improved: Could not figure out how to get local TV. Everything seemed to be streaming. Not that we watched a lot of TV anyway. Small inconvenience. Pretty expensive due to local events taking place at time of stay.
