Kingston Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Kingston Hotel on Richards Street, you immediately get that classic downtown Vancouver vibe — it’s not trying to be flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place. The lobby has this comfortable, lived-in feel that makes you think they’ve been doing this for a while and know what works. I mean, it’s a three-star property, so you’re not expecting marble everything, but honestly? The straightforward approach is refreshing after dealing with hotels that oversell and underdeliver.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about Richards Street — you’re literally in the thick of everything without the chaos of being right on Robson or Granville. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just marketing fluff; couples especially seem to love it here, and I can see why. You can walk to BC Place in about ten minutes, hit up the shops on Robson Street without dealing with tourist crowds right outside your door, and actually — this is key — you’re close enough to Yaletown that grabbing dinner or drinks feels effortless rather than like a expedition across the city.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Kingston Hotel are what I’d call honest — clean, functional, with everything you actually need rather than stuff that looks good in photos but doesn’t work in real life. The beds are comfortable (which, let’s be real, is what matters most), and the bathrooms are updated enough that you’re not wondering when the fixtures were last replaced. You know what I appreciated? The windows actually open, which sounds basic but try finding that in newer downtown hotels. The street can get a bit noisy on weekends, but it’s city noise, not construction or anything jarring.

Getting Around Vancouver

This is where the location really shines — you’re walking distance to Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain station, which connects you to basically everywhere you’d want to go as a visitor. False Creek and the seawall are right there if you’re into the whole waterfront scene, and honestly, being able to walk to GM Place (sorry, Rogers Arena — old habits) for Canucks games or concerts is pretty sweet. The area feels safe to walk around at night, which matters more than people sometimes admit when they’re picking a place to stay.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Kingston Hotel isn’t any single standout feature — it’s that everything just works the way it should. The staff knows the neighborhood well enough to give you actual recommendations rather than just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots, and the whole operation feels like they care about getting the basics right. For the price point in downtown Vancouver, you’re getting solid value without any unpleasant surprises. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, wake up in the heart of the city, and don’t feel like you’ve been nickel-and-dimed for every little thing.

Vancouver hotels keep guests close to Stanley Park totems, seaplane terminals, and designer boutiques on Robson.

  • Roberto from Italy (8/10)

Great location, Vancouver downtown. Hotel is good and comfortable. Rooms (we booked two double with private bathroom) are ok, pretty clean, and very good value for the price. No AC, but we stayed in September and had zero issues. Clean bathroom. Hotel offers complimentary coffee and tea in the morning, which is a nice plus before going out for breakfast with plenty of places within 10 minutes of walk. Staff is kind and service oriented. We would come back again.
